Everyone here and a galaxy far, far away is celebrating the news that composer John Williams is returning to write the score for Disney+’s Obi-Wan Kenobi series. That’s right! The man that gave us some of the most legendary tunes in Star Wars (and so many other classic movies) is back to lend his musical talents to the upcoming Obi-Wan series.

Variety reports that the process to get John Williams on location to record the score was quite discrete, which sounds spot on for a high profile Disney production like Obi-Wan Kenobi. Apparently, last week Williams recorded with an orchestra in a very secure location in Los Angeles. I mean, “secure” in that no one knew right away that it was happening, but not secure enough that the news didn’t leak anyway.

Whatever the case, Star Wars fans are ecstatic that Williams is returning. It’s truly a rite of passage for any new Star Wars movie or show. It just wouldn’t feel like Star Wars without John Williams composing the music.

John Williams is returning for another Star Wars project

Williams’ return isn’t all that shocking considering he’s been around since day one — literally. He’s done the score for nine Star Wars movies and even won an Oscar for the work he did on the first film. He doesn’t typically do television work, which is why it’s a pretty big deal that he’s doing the Obi-Wan score.

But while this may be a rare foray into television for Williams, it’s not the first time he is creating music for the character of Obi-Wan Kenobi. He made the theme for Alec Guinness’ Obi-Wan during the first film and also did the prequels which starred Ewan McGregor in the role.

We have no idea what the music for the series is going to sound like, but I have no doubt that whatever Williams has come up with is going to be amazing. And luckily, the wait to hear what he’s created won’t be much longer because the series premieres on Disney+ on May 25, 2022.

Mark your calendars, folks! We’re about to return to the world of Star Wars in the most incredible of ways with McGregor reprising his role as Obi-Wan and Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader. It’s going to be so epic — I can hardly wait!
