Patrick Stewart, Ryan Reynolds address Doctor Strange 2 cameo rumors
By Ashley Hurst
As the title suggests, the next Doctor Strange movie, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, will explore the endless possibilities of alternate realities. Of course, this presents the opportunity for numerous surprise cameos. Fans have their theories about who could show up, and rumored stars are already denying their involvement. Most recently, Patrick Stewart and Ryan Reynolds counted themselves out. In other words, it’s Spider-Man: No Way Home all over again.
In Multiverse of Madness, Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) enlists the help of Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) to traverse the mind-bending multiverse and confront a dangerous new adversary… who might just be himself. Watch the trailer below:
Fans have zeroed in on a moment around 1:20 when Doctor Strange is brought before some kind of tribunal, and we hear a voice that sounds a lot like Patrick Stewart say, “We should tell him the truth.” The theory is that this is a version of Professor X (whom Stewart played onscreen for years) from an alternate reality. Marvel has been looking for a way to bring the X-Men into the MCU, after all; what better opportunity than this?
That said, Stewart is having none of it. “You know, people have been imitating my voice ever since I came on the stage 60 years ago,” he told ComicBook.com. “So, I can’t be held responsible for that.”
"Here’s the problem… If we had not made Logan, then yes, I would probably be ready to get into that wheelchair one more time and be Charles Xavier. But Logan changed all that."
…or he could be in Multiverse of Madness and he’s just not telling us. It’s not as though Andrew Garfield denied he was in Spider-Man: No Way Home for months before the movie released in theaters and we confirmed that he was lying the whole time:
Ryan Reynolds also says he’s not in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
We know that Ryan Reynolds’ version of Deadpool will be making his way into the Marvel Cinematic Universe at some point. But according to the actor, his MCU debut doesn’t come in Multiverse of Madness. “I’m really not in the movie,” Reynolds told Variety. “I’m promising, I’m not in the movie.”
Is he telling the truth? Honestly, I don’t think fans really want to know; it ruins the surprise. Plus, ambiguity keeps fans talking, so don’t expect any confirmation until the movie premieres.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness premieres on May 6.
