Superman & Lois is finally back after what has felt like an incredibly long hiatus. This week’s episode gives us more details on the latest baddie to come to Smallville.

We finally learned before the break that the season’s Big Bad was none other than Bizarro, an alternate, opposite version of Superman. Does he look like the Joker to anyone else?

We also learn more about cult leader Ally Allston (Rya Kihlstedt). Chrissy (Sofia Hasmik) continues her investigation and discovers just what she signed up for.

Last but not least, the Kent boys are wilding out. Jonathan (Jordan Elsass) is on drugs that are “giving him powers,” or so he thinks. He’s been particularly aggressive towards Jordan (Alex Garfin) which I’ve chalked up to jealousy; mix in the drugs and things could get pretty ugly.

Let’s get into the major moments from this week’s episode of Superman & Lois!

SPOILERS below!

Superman & Lois looks into Ally Allston

During her investigation into Ally Allston, Chrissy finds herself in a very sticky situation.

Chrissy has been particularly annoying this season; I’m not sure why they’ve written a character who thinks she’s more experienced and wiser than Lois Lane (Bitsie Tulloch). She’s constantly arguing with Lois and can’t seem to get on the same page as her. It’s getting old.

Anyway, the investigation confirms that Ally Allston is indeed the Big Bad this season, at least for Lois. Chrissy goes to meet Ally and ends up on a nonconsensual drug trip. She finds herself in an alternate reality where she runs into a “bizarro” version of herself. Apparently, Ally uses a pendant to control this other world, so things are getting very complicated.

The chronicles of Bizarro

Let’s switch to the man of the house: Bizarro (Tyler Hoechlin). We get another face-off between Superman and Bizarro, which means it’s Hoechlin vs. Hoechlin. The CW’s visual effects aren’t always the best, but I love seeing these two characters fight. It’s just so…bizarro.

Things get worse when Lois and Clark find the body of Dr. Faulkner (Catherine Lough Haggquist). It’s all contorted and was lying in a pool of blood, thanks to Bizarro. This villain goes hard, and I’m honestly surprised that we saw something that gruesome!! I’m not sure we’ve seen anything like this since Arrow, which knew how to go really dark.

With Dr. Faulkner dead, Lois and Clark know Bizarro is going for Ally Allston next. Just as they arrive to try and stop Bizarro, he shows up flying through the wall and kicking off an epic showdown.

The Fortress of Solitude

After the battle, Superman & Lois takes us to the Fortress of Solitude where Superman’s mother Lara (Mariana Klaveno) manages to trap Bizarro. And once confined, he has some revealing news to share.

Superman learns from Bizarro that his mission on Earth is to save his world as well as Superman’s. And in order to do that he needs to stop Ally Allston, by which he means kill her. Will Clark/Superman be able to do that himself if Bizarro is being kept at the Fortress? I doubt it, but it will be interesting to see what he decides to do. There is this darkness inside of him, and I’ve been waiting to see if it comes out.

Elsewhere in Superman & Lois

The Cushing family celebrates Sarah’s (Inde Navarrette) quinceañera, but it takes a very bad turn. Kyle’s (Erik Valdez) mistress (yes, mistress) shows up with some bad news, and Sarah overhears everything.

Not only does Sarah learn that her father cheated on her mother, but also that Lana’s (Emmanuelle Chriqui) campaign may be in jeopardy. The woman Kyle had an affair with told her friend about it, and that friend sold the story to Lana’s opponent to mess up the campaign.

Needless to say, the father-daughter dance was very awkward.

Last but not least, we must talk about the Kent brothers. Jonathan has been getting more and more aggressive towards Jordan. He’s clearly jealous about his brother’s powers, and I have to thank the writers for finally acknowledging that. Up until now, Jonathan has been super supportive and trying to be there for his brother. But this is a high school boy we’re talking about, he was bound to get annoyed at some point.

It also doesn’t help that he’s doing drugs, and some very weird superhero-y drugs at that. Jordan sees Jonathan’s eyes flicker and assumes that his brother is getting powers too. I’m not sure that he’s going to respond very positively when he finds out his brother has been doing drugs…

Superman & Lois is back and I couldn’t be happier. It is most definitely the strongest Arrowverse show we have right now.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Bizarro/Ally Allston storyline this week because we’re finally getting into some classic comic book characters and villains. It’s always fun when classic stories come to life on the screen, and I’m crossing my fingers that Superman & Lois does it justice.

But maybe they could fix the visual effects on Bizarro? Please?
