This year is the year that Game of Thrones fans get to return to Westeros! HBO is readying House of the Dragon, a prequel series that takes place some 200 years before the original tale. There’s already a teaser trailer out, and things are looking promising.

The show is about the Dance of the Dragons, a brutal civil war fought between rival factions of the Targaryen family back when they were at the height of their power. That means dragons vs dragons in the skies above Westeros. It could be very, very good.

But when do we get to see it? Well, we know House of the Dragon is coming out in 2022, but it won’t be this month.

HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel show isn’t coming out in March 2022

We’ve confirmed that shooting on the first season of House of the Dragon has finished, but that only happened recently. This will be a complicated, special effects-heavy show. It will need a good long while in post-production before it sees the light of day, so best get comfortable.

Happily, we do have some clues as to when House of the Dragon could premiere. Recently we learned that there’s a new edition of Fire & Blood — that’s the book by George R.R. Martin on which the show is based — coming out on July 12. Traditionally, this sort of thing happens pretty close in time to when a movie or TV show based on the book is about to air. So the chances that House of the Dragon is coming in July or August seem good.

For now, we watch and wait.
