The Walking Dead ending may be very different from the comics

For over a decade, The Walking Dead fans have argued back and forth over how the show will end. Will there be a cure for the zombie virus? Will everyone die? Of course, the comics by Robert Kirkman are the best reference point for how things ultimately pan out. However, one star has decided to keep us on our toes, warning that the show may stray from the source material.

The Walking Dead comics ended on a positive note….well, about as positive as you can get in such a brutal, zombie-infested world. The final issue takes a gigantic 25-year time jump and catches up with an older Carl Grimes wandering around his safe community, named the Grimes family farm, meeting many familiar faces. It appears as if his group has mostly avoided trouble and finally found a safe place they can call home.

Of course, with Carl dead, Rick out of the picture, and Michonne away, the TV show has already made it impossible to perfectly adapt the comic. But if the writers wanted to, they could easily create something similar. Or not…

The Walking Dead may not visit “some of the stuff towards the end of the comic series”

Discussing the ending of the show, star Ross Marquand (Aaron) recently told Insider that he thinks the writers may have a different conclusion in mind. “They might not be visiting some of the stuff towards the end of the comic series,” he said. “I don’t think they’re rushing anything and I certainly don’t think they’re truncating anything except for the stuff towards the end of the comic series.”

As AMC has many Walking Dead spinoffs in development, we wouldn’t be surprise if they skipped the 25-year time jump. Once the main show ends, AMC has already announced a spinoff show about Carol (Melissa McBride) and Daryl (Norman Reedus), so it’s no good spoiling what happens to them. Plus, there are those mysterious Rick Grimes movies. Adding in a time jump of that scale would really complicate things.

Norman Reedus sends out an ominous tweet…

Given that he’s the longest-serving survivor in the series alongside Carol, a lot has been said about how Daryl’s story will end. The other day, Norman Reedus shared an article from ScreenRant that explained how Daryl is on course to fill in for Rick when it comes to the ending. If that’s true, (SPOILER incoming), it means that Daryl will die, as Rick did in the books. But again, that’s not likely given that Daryl has his own spinoff c oming up.

Either way, Reedus sharing the article, with absolutely no caption, feels painfully ominous. Or he’s just trolling people.

The Walking Dead season 11 continues Sundays on AMC. For AMC+ subscribers, episodes drop one week early.
