The first season of The Wheel of Time, Amazon’s lavish adaptation of Robert Jordan’s landmark fantasy series, came to a close last December. The series proved successful, getting solid viewer numbers and reviews, although it did divide readers of Jordan’s series.

In any case, Amazon is most definitely coming back for more. In fact, they started working on the second season of The Wheel of Time before the first had even finished airing. So hopefully season 2 will be out sooner rather than later.

That said, it’s still going to take a minute. As far ahead as Amazon is thinking, there’s still no way we’ll be seeing The Wheel of Time season 2 in March of 2022. This is a complicated show that involves a lot of post-production work; they’ll need some time.

Will The Wheel of Time season 2 be out in 2022?

That’s the more interesting question. Filming on The Wheel of Time season 2 is already far enough along that Amazon Studios executive Vernon Sanders has seen rough cuts of the first two episodes. “I could get those out to everyone right away,” he said around the time the finale aired. “They’re just, they’re great.”

We also know that the second season of The Wheel of Time will premiere after Amazon debuts its other big fantasy series, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. That series premieres on September 2 and should run for at least two months, so don’t expect to see The Wheel of Time season 2 before November.

And depending on scheduling and post-production, it could take longer than that. We’re holding out hope that we’ll see more of The Wheel of Time in 2022, but if it slipped into 2023, we wouldn’t be shocked.
