Based on the novels by Leigh Bardugo, Netflix scored a hit last year with Shadow and Bone, a fantasy series that takes place in a world inspired by Czarist Russia. With a twisty plot, a richly imagined fantasy world and a lot of charming characters, this show could become a fan favorite.

Naturally, Netflix is working on a second season, but don’t expect to see it anytime soon, and certainly not in March of 2022. Season 2 is currently in production and will reportedly wrap sometime in the summer.

Does that mean that the show could at least debut its second season by the end of the year? It’s possible, although given the amount of post-production work a high fantasy series like this needs, we’d place our bets on it premiering sometime in 2023.

Shadow and Bond season 2 could come out in 2022

Shadow and Bone season 1 adapted the first book in Bardugo’s series, aptly titled Shadow and Bone. But it also brought in the Crows, the stars of a different Bardugo series set in the same world. The second season will adapt two books: on the Shadow and Bone side of things, we’ll get Siege and Storm. Meanwhile, the Crows will engage with the events of Six of Crows.

Netflix handled the twists and turns of the first season well. With an expanded cast and experience under their belt, the producers could well top themselves in season 2.
