Warner Bros. has updated its release schedule for the next year, and some big movies are getting pushed back…way back. Mostly this is going to affect the studio’s superhero output. Here’s a summary of what’s getting moved around:

  • DC’s League of Super-Pets: Delayed from May 20 to July 29
  • Black Adam: Delayed from July 29 to October 21
  • Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom: Delayed from December 16 to March 17, 2023
  • The Flash: Delayed from November 4 to June 23, 2023

The Aquaman sequel was always in a bit of a precarious position since it was going to open on the same weekend as Avatar 2, which Disney is determined to make happen.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods gets moved UP in time

So Warner Bros. had four big superhero movies coming out in this year and now it only has two, as Aquaman 2 and The Flash get kicked into 2023…but wait! Perhaps to offset the loss, the studio is actually going to release Shazam! Fury of the Gods ahead of schedule. That movie was going to come out in 2023, but is now slated to release on December 12, 2022.

On the Marvel side of things, the studio has Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of MadnessThor: Love and Thunder and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever all coming out this year. Delays or not, there will still be plenty of superhero action in 2022.

One more delay for the road: Warner Bros. is pushing back the release date of Wonka, its reimagining of the Roald Dahl classic with Timothée Chalamet in the lead role, from March 17, 2023 to Dec. 15, 2023. And The Meg 2, a sequel to the movie about the really really big shark, is coming out on August 4, 2023.
