Game of Thrones star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister) had a new movie debut last week on Netflix: Against the Ice, which Coster-Waldau cowrote alongside Joe Derrick. The movie tells the true story of Captain Ejnar Mikkelsen, who in 1909 set out on a dangerous expedition to explore Greenland.

Not only is the movie a passion project for Coster-Waldau — he adapted it from Ejnar Mikkelsen’s autobiography Two Against the Ice — but it also reunites him with his Game of Thrones costar Charles Dance (Tywin Lannister). Just that is enough to make it worth a look.

What’s more, according to Giant Freaking Robot, over the weekend Against the Ice was the number one movie on Netflix, which is certainly a nice feather in Coster-Waldau’s cap. As of this writing, it looks to have fallen down the list a bit, but it’s still in the top 10. Not bad at all.

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is as excited to watch House of the Dragon as the rest of us

Coster-Waldau has been talking up the movie in the press, which of course means some journalists have asked him about Game of Thrones. Speaking to ScreenRant, the actor weighed in on House of the Dragon, HBO’s upcoming prequel series set about 200 years before Jaime Lannister was even born.

“I’m looking forward to it,” Coster-Waldau said. “We had such a great run, it was a lot of fun to do that show and now it’s over. This is a new show and yeah, like everyone else, I’m gonna sit down and enjoy.”

He and us both.

House of the Dragon tells the story of the Dance of the Dragons, a brutal civil war fought between rival factions of the Targaryen family. It’s every bit as twisty and intriguing as Game of Thrones, only there are a lot more dragons fighting each other.

We know House of the Dragon is coming out this year, although we don’t yet know when. Stay tuned.
