The fifth and final season of The Last Kingdom is now on Netflix! If you need help getting reacquainted with the show’s vast cast of characters, we’re here to provide.

Eadith (Stefanie Martini) was introduced in the fourth season of The Last Kingdom and plays a big role in the fifth. We first met her when she was the mistress of Aethelred, the king of Mercia and the husband of the long-suffering Æthelflæd. Along with her brother Eardwulf, she intended to cultivate influence and rise in Mercian society.

As they so often do on The Last Kingdom, things went a bit pear-shaped, and Eadith ended up on opposite sides of a conflict from her brother once Aethelred died. Eadith sided with Uhtred and his crew, always the right side of the line to be on. Her brother was executed by Danes but she ended season 4 with her skin intact. At the beginning of season 5, we see that she has remained in Mercia and trained to be a healer.

Are Uhtred and Eadith together on The Last Kingdom?

Although we didn’t get a hint of this in season 4, in season 5 there are a couple of moments where it seems like the show is setting up a romance between Eadith and lead character Uhtred of Bebbanburg (Alexander Dreymon). There’s a bit early on where Eadith accidentally stumbles upon Uhtred naked and then maybe looks a little too intently at him as he walks away. They also do a little flirting in the series finale.

So what’s going on here? Well, in the Saxon Stories books by Bernard Cornwell, Uhtred and Eadith do indeed get together. If I had to guess, I’d say we’ll see them as an item in the upcoming Last Kingdom movie Seven Kings Must Die.

But that’ll be then. We don’t know when the movie will come out, so for now, we can just enjoy the final episodes of the TV show.
