Karl Urban basically confirms The Boys season 4
By Dan Selcke
Over the weekend, Amazon dropped a teaser trailer for the third season of The Boys, its gleefully violent superhero show that’s about as far away from Marvel wholesomeness as you can get. The heroes are villains and the people arrayed against them are, at best, compromised. If you’re tired of the standard superhero stories currently clogging the airwaves, this could be the show for you.
The lead character on the The Boys is Billy Butcher (Karl Urban), who has a violent vendetta against all “Supes.” By the looks of the trailer, Butcher will give himself superpowers in season 3, which he hopes will give him a fighting chance against the likes of the violent Homelander (Antony Starr).
“The top of the season pretty much picks up a little bit of time after the end of Season 2,” Urban said. “Butcher’s very frustrated. He still wants to go to war, but there seems to be a bit of a stagnation. Everyone is quite happy with the status quo and Butcher and Homelander [Antony Starr] want to shake it up a bit.”
"For Butcher this season, he wants to level the playing field. All the old techniques of bribery and coercion are a little bit boring to him, so he wants to take it to the next level. I think the fun thing about this season is it really challenges all of the characters as to, ‘How far are you willing to go? Are you willing to become the monster in order to defeat the monster?’ Every character comes to that precipice and has to make that choice of whether they’re gonna leap or not."
The fun starts on June 3.
The Boys season 4 is (probably) coming
And what about after that? It should come as no surprise that Prime Video is planning more seasons of The Boys — its one of the service’s biggest hits — but I don’t know if they want to tip their hand just yet.
Nonetheless, Karl Urban let the cat out of the bag while talking to Variety. “I’m shooting The Boys through the end of the year,” he said. Season 4, here we come.
Two seasons in and The Boys has staked out ground for itself as a really good series with something to say. If the third season raises the bar further, it may become a proper mega-hit. Here’s hoping.
Karl Urban “would love” to work on another Star Trek movie
Urban also told Variety about the upcoming new Star Trek movie, the one that will apparently reunite him with Chris Pine, Zoe Saldaña and the rest of the cast. It all came as news to him, which is what we’ve heard from pretty much all the actors.
Urban has played Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy in these movies since 2009’s Star Trek. “I haven’t seen a script, I know nothing,” he said. “But I would love to work with those guys again, so much fun, the best hang. We’ll see.”
The new Star Trek film is slated to come out on December 22, 2023. This despite none of the actors having seen a script or even officially signing on to the project, but hope springs eternal.
