The Walking Dead is currently airing its eleventh and final season on AMC, but it’ll take a break eventually. That’s where spinoff show Fear the Walking Dead comes in. To make sure you never have to go too long without flesh-hungry zombies in your life, AMC will start airing new episodes of that show in April, and they’ll feature the return of a familiar face.

But first, a quick recap: the characters on Fear the Walking Dead are currently dealing with the fallout from a nuclear blast, as if the zombie apocalypse wasn’t enough. In the chaos, Victor Strand (Colman Domingo) has established a tyrannical new society. Other survivors, including Walking Dead mainstay Morgan Jones (Lennie James) decide to storm Strand’s headquarters.

All that and the return of Madison Clark, who shows up at the end of the trailer below:

How does Madison Clark return to Fear the Walking Dead?

“Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey,) now the reluctant leader to Teddy’s former followers, is plagued by a mysterious illness and the repercussions of her past actions,” reads AMC’s official synopsis. “Morgan (Lennie James,) trying to maintain hope that he will be reunited with his family, knows Alicia is key to their survival. With Alicia declaring war, Strand’s paranoia and personal vendettas grow, and with that, new threats emerge from all sides.”

The synopsis doesn’t mention how Madison fits in, but that’s probably intentional; the show clearly wants to maintain the mystery.

Last we saw Madison, she was burning up in the flames of the thriving community she’d built inside an abandoned baseball stadium. That was way back in season 4. That might have been the end for her, but we never saw a body, which is basically TV speak for, ‘She’s not really dead.’ We just have to wait on the details of what Madison’s been doing between then and now.

New episodes of Fear the Walking Dead season 7 start airing on April 17 on AMC. AMC+ subscribers can watch them a week early.
