Supernatural ended its historic 15-season run in 2020, but The CW isn’t quite done with the wide of monster-hunters just yet. It’s commissioned a prequel series about John and Mary Winchester, the parents of Supernatural lead characters Sam and Dean Winchester; monster-hunting runs in the family.

According to Deadline, The Winchesters will tell the “epic, untold love story of how John met Mary and how they put it all on the line to not only save their love, but the entire world.” And now, it’s cast a pair of demon-hunters, but not the ones you think.

A new pair of hunters join John and Mary in The Winchesters

On the original show, the older versions of John and Mary were played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Samantha Smith. No doubt The Winchesters will recast the roles with younger actors. But they’re not the only hunters we’ll meet.

The show has cast Nida Khurshid and Jojo Fleites as Latika Desai and Carlos Cervantez. Latika is described as “a young hunter-in-training whose research and problem-solving skills help her face her fears in battling dark forces.” She is “fiercely intelligent and braver than she believes.” Carlos, meanwhile, is “a natural when it comes to fighting demons and a boost of positivity for the team as it takes on more serious threats.”

Sam and Dean met plenty of friends along the road during their journey, but at its core theirs was a two-man operation. The Winchesters may have more of an ensemble vibe.

There’s no release date for The Winchesters as of yet. The show is being produced by Jensen Ackles, who played Dean Winchester on the original show, and his wife Danneel Ackles, who also appeared on it. Oddly, Jared Padalecki, who played Sam Winchester, is not involved, which came as a surprise to him. We’ll see if that drama is revived closer to the premiere date.
