Fellow Whovians, how would you feel if Hugh Grant took over for Jodie Whittaker in Doctor Who? Yes, I’m talking about the same Hugh Grant who danced his way into our hearts in Love Actually. Yes, the same Hugh Grant who melted our hearts in Notting Hill. He’s basically the king of the classic romcoms, but how would he fare as the Doctor?

Honestly, I’m not sure how I feel about this. He definitely has that classic British vibe going for him, but he comes with a lot of career baggage. For now, this is just a rumor from The Mirror, which reports that the BBC series is thinking about doing a “Marvel-style makeover.” I’m not sure what that means, but if it entails some sort of multiversal aspect, I’m in! Now that former showrunner Russell T Davies is returning to his old job for season 14, anything could happen.

Anyway, back to Hugh Grant…

What If…Hugh Grant became the next Doctor Who?

As I already mentioned, for now, Hugh Grant’s casting is just a rumor. But “insiders” have claimed that Davies is eager to bring in Grant because he would bring “a fresh feel” to the role of the Doctor. The same source says that Grant has much to offer, including his remarkable acting career, his Britishness, his comedic talents, and so on.

I could see Grant being more like a Peter Capaldi type of Doctor, rocking out on his guitar and having that cool vibe about him. So I guess it’s not that unimaginable, but I’m still not sure I’m on board with it. There are just so many other options!

But we may have a while before we find out what the official decision is. Whittaker’s final episode won’t air until later this year, although we’ll also see her in the special “Legend of the Sea Devils” this spring. Hang tight, Whovians!
