The Witcher 4 will be made with Unreal Engine 5

The other day, it was revealed that CD Projekt Red, the Polish developer behind the acclaimed Witcher series, is working on a new game. There’s no official title yet, but we’re just gonna call it The Witcher until someone tells us otherwise.

There will be a few changes to the game this time around. The last Witcher game, 2015’s Wild Hunt, was made with the REDEngine, CD Projekt Red’s internal toolset. This time they’re going to use Unreal Engine 5, which is made by Epic Games. This is all part of CD Project Red’s “multi-year strategic partnership with Epic Games,” the uber-successful makers of Fortnite.

Does that mean that The Witcher 4 will only be available at the Epic Games Store? Read on.

Will The Witcher 4 only be available at the Epic Games Store?

That’s what some fans have been worried about, but the official Witcher Twitter account set them at ease by saying that, “We are not planning on making the game exclusive to one storefront.”

Presumably, that means The Witcher 4 could also be available on stuff like the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X whenever it comes out (we don’t have a release date yet). However, note that just because the company isn’t “planning on making the game exclusive to one storefront” doesn’t mean it won’t happen. Stay alert.

Also, CD Projekt Red has some goodwill to win back after its last big game, Cyberpunk 2077, came out riddled with bugs. Sure, things improved over time, but it was still a bit of an embarrassment for a company that had gained a reputation for quality. Will The Witcher 4 get them back on track?
