It’s been half a century since Doctor Who came into our lives. It’s a show enjoyed by multiple generations as cast members have rotated in and out every few years. That’s hard to sustain, but Doctor Who has managed it by mixing and matching various Doctors with various companions. And few pairings have been as iconic as Karen Gillan’s Amy Pond together with Matt Smith’s Eleventh Doctor.

Amy Pond was an important character for the franchise because of her familial ties with the Doctor and River Song. I still remember watching that batch of episodes and thinking this show is something special…very special.

Well, it looks like Karen Gillan just might be open to returning to that world, under the right circumstances. She revealed as much during her “Auto-Complete Interview” with Wired.

Karen Gillan would be “interested” in coming back to Doctor Who

Under what circumstances would Gillan make a comeback? Here’s what she had to say:

"Never say never. If I was asked, I would be really, really interested and keen. It would be really amazing. I’d like to do it with Matt Smith and Arthur Darvill if I was going to go back."

Heck yes! If she did come back I can’t imagine two better people to pair her back up with. There really is no Amy Pond without Matt Smith and Arthur Darvill’s Rory Williams. Gillan and Darvill’s pairing was one of my personal favorites from the show, and I think many fans would agree that their return would be amazing.

It’s been nearly a decade since Karen Gillan was in a Doctor Who episode, but with Russell T Davies returning as showrunner, anything is possible. We’ll keep our fingers crossed

Until then, check out Karen Gillan in Judd Apatow’s hilarious pandemic comedy The Bubble, which will be streaming on Netflix starting April 1. And then brace yourselves for her return as Nebula in Marvel’s Thor: Love and Thunder as well as The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special later this year!
