Imagine Wordle, but all the words are things from Game of Thrones. Enter Hodordle.
Recently, the world has been obsessed with Wordle, a web-based word game developed by Welsh software engineer Josh Wardle. The rules are simple: every day, players are tasked with identifying a different five-letter word. To help them guess, they can enter a limited number of other words, and the program tells them whether any of the letters in those words are also in the word of the day, and whether they’ve been placed in the right spot. You get five words before you have to put up and make your guess; can you Wordle successfully?
If you can’t, perhaps you’d have more luck with Hodordle, a Game of Thrones-themed take on the game that works the exact same way, only all of winning words are Game of Thrones-themed and you only get to test the waters with four words rather than five before you have to pony up an answer. The game was developed by Wiki of Thrones, which is less a wiki than a news sight, but still: they make a quality word game.
Also, it’s pretty funny that they named the word game after the character who’s only capable of saying one thing.
Confidentially, I had not yet participated in the Wordle craze before finding out about Hodordle; I’d only seen people randomly posting grids of colored squares online and wondered vaguely what it was about before finding something else to do. But with the Game of Thrones runway, I might be able to get into this.
