Shadow and Bone season 2 “is going to be insane”
By Dan Selcke
Netflix scored a hit with the first season of Shadow and Bone, its adaptation of Leigh Bardugo’s fantasy book series. The fun will continue with season 2, which will add several new characters to the mix. Among them is Tolya, a Grisha heartrender (meaning he can screw around with the inside of your body) played by Lewis Tan, who broke out the other year with a lead role in the new Mortal Kombat movie.
Tan is also in the Netflix movie Fistful of Vengeance, so his star is on the rise. Given his martial arts skills, we expect to see some high-flying action from him come season 2, which he is bursting to talk about.
“It’s just incredible,” Tan told Film Updates about being on the show. “I met [author] Leigh Bardugo a few days ago. She’s awesome … It was really cool to be a part of it.”
"I really love what they did with season one. I thought the production design, the VFX, and the writing were really, really, really well done, so I’m excited to try something new, a different genre for me, kind of … Season 2 is going to be insane … I’m really excited and the cast is really nice. They’ve been very welcoming. I’ve been [in Hungary] for two months now, and we’ve been working really hard."
And this interview was given a few weeks back, so Tan is even further along now. We’re crossing our fingers that the team finishes sooner rather than later so we can continue enjoying the story.
Lewis Tan is “really excited” about Shadow and Bone season 2
Tan’s character Toyla has a twin sister named Tamar, also a Grisha heartrender, played by Anna Leong Brophy. “[T]hey embraced us with open arms, and that was really sweet,” he told Nerds & Beyond. “And it’s not always like that, that you get a cast that is really caring and kind.”
Hopefully that camaraderie shows up onscreen. “I’m really excited,” Tan concluded. “I can’t say too much about it.”
We don’t have an exact release date for Shadow and Bone season 2 yet, but expect it out in late 2022 or early 2023 on Netflix.
