The Witcher is Netflix’s biggest fantasy hit to date. Starring Henry Cavill as a white-haired monster hunter named Geralt of Rivia, the show amassed a huge audience when it released its second season in late 2021 and continues to be one of the biggest fantasy shows of the moment. Season 2 ended with some serious cliffhangers, with various forces are closing in to assassinate Geralt’s adoptive daughter Ciri or use her for their own ends. What lies ahead?

And more importantly, when will we find out? Here’s everything we’ve learned about The Witcher season 3 in the past few weeks.

When does The Witcher season 3 come out?

Ever since season 2 of The Witcher dropped on Netflix, we’ve all been waiting patiently for any news about the show’s upcoming third season. Things have been pretty quiet, but there are some signs that all that is about to change.

Season 3 of The Witcher reportedly began filming on March 31. While this means we don’t have a release date yet, it’s the most promising sign for the production we’ve had to date.

As for when we might get to see the show, the fact that it’s just now beginning filming as we move into April means there’s a very good chance we won’t see The Witcher season 3 until 2023. The show is very special effects-heavy, which means that it will likely have a long post-production period after it finishes shooting.

All that said, it’s great news that production on The Witcher season 3 is underway. And in the meantime, the prequel series Blood Origin is expected to debut on Netflix sometime in 2022 to hold us over. Blood Origin stars Michelle Yeoh and will depict the ancient event in the witchering universe known as the Conjunction of the Spheres, when several planets overlapped and stranded various humanoid races and monsters on the Continent.

The Witcher seasons 1 and 2 are currently available to stream on Netflix.
