When do the final episodes of Attack on Titan air?

Last night, Attack on Titan dropped the 28th episode of its fourth and final season, “The Dawn of Humanity,” where we saw Eren’s army of Colossal Titans make landfall in Marley with the intention of crushing every living thing under their massive feet. Can the rest of our heroes stop him in time?

At one point, it looked like this might be the “series finale” of the show, since it was the last episode on the docket and no continuation had been announced. But obviously that was never going to happen. Attack on Titan is nearly done adapting the manga series by Hajime Isayama, but it’s not done yet, with some of the major climactic events yet to come.

Plus it’s a hugely popular series, so they were never going to leave things on a cliffhanger. Was there going to be a movie? More than one movie? Another crop of episodes?

Attack on Titan will air final episodes in 2023

As it ends up, it’s the third one. After “The Dawn of Humanity,” Attack on Titan announced that one more stretch of episodes was coming sometime next year. Check out the oh-so-brief teaser trailer:

My only question is why they didn’t announce this sooner.

Attack on Titan has gained a reputation for adapting the manga very closely, but considering that we’re in the home stretch of the story, we can expect that this next crop of episodes will be the final stretch, for real this time.
