Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord is a strategy action role-playing game developed by TaleWorlds Entertainment and released into early access in 2020. The proper game still isn’t out yet — it’s on its way later this year — but the early version has been a huge hit, earning up to 200,000 concurrent players.
The game tasks players with raising an army and participating in medieval battles, completely with siege weapons and on-the-ground combat. The whole thing gives off serious Game of Thrones vibes, and indeed, the modding community has already taken notice. One fan, Carolina Warlord, is working on an elaborate Game of Thrones-themed mod called Realm of Thrones. It is now itself in early access and is available to download here.
Realm of Thrones is a Game of Thrones mod for Mount & Blade II
Per PC Gamer, the mod is very rich in features. A massive map takes players to Westeros and a good chunk of Essos, with major areas like King’s Landing and Winterfell represented. There are even wights wandering beyond the Wall in the far North.
The detail goes right down to the individual soldiers, with hundreds of custom armor sets for different types of troops like the Night’s Watch, the Thenns and the Dothraki. Faux-Jon Snow below clearly has Longclaw on his hip. The attention to detail is real.
According to Carolina Warlord, the mod is “still a work in progress and will be for a while.” But the base game isn’t even out yet and it’s still amassed a ton of fans, so that shouldn’t be an impediment.
