Warner Bros. may “hit pause” on Ezra Miller films after arrest, “meltdowns”
By Dan Selcke
Last week, we learned that actor Ezra Miller — who plays Barry Allen in Warner Bros.’ DC universe of movies — was arrested for disorderly conduct and harassment after allegedly accosting people at a karaoke bar in Hawaii. According to IndieWire, a couple also took a restraining order out against Miller after the actor allegedly burst into their bedroom threatening to “bury” them both. And then there was the time in 2020 Miller appeared to choke a woman in a bar in Reykjavik, Iceland.
Add this all up and you have a pretty troubling pattern of behavior that no employer wants to deal with, least of all a movie studio that wants its stars to present a good image. According to a source at the Rolling Stone, executives from Warner Bros. and DC recently met and decided to “hit pause on any future projects involving Miller, including possible appearances in the DC Cinematic Universe.” According to the same source, Miller had “frequent meltdowns” on the set of The Flash, which will be a solo outing for the character he introduced in 2016’s Justice League. “Ezra would get a thought in his head and say, ‘I don’t know what I’m doing,’” the source said.
It’s worth noting that a source from Indiewire told the publication that no such meeting took place, so right now it’s hard to be sure of anything. But even without the allegations about breakdowns on set, it’s not hard to believe that studio execs might look at Miller’s behavior and decide that something needed to be done.
The Flash is still set for a June 2023 release date
The Flash is still scheduled to come out on June 23, 2023. In addition to Miller, it stars both Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton as Batman. Like a lot of superhero films lately, it will involve the multiverse.
You can also see Miller in Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, which comes out next weekend. Between Johnny Depp and writer J.K. Rowling, that franchise seems unable to get away from behind-the-scenes controversy.
