Outlander season 7 is officially in production! Sweeter words have never been written, folks. I am so excited to know that our next Droughtlander may not be as long as the one we just endured.
Currently, it’s hard to think ahead to the next season while we are still in the middle of watching the sixth, but I’ll do my best. In fact, I think it’s a genius move to begin filming while fans are still watching season 6.
For those that have been watching, the sixth season of Outlander is prepping the folks of Fraser’s Ridge for the American Revolutionary War. Being from the future, Brianna (Sophie Skelton), Claire (Caitriona Balfe), and Roger (Richard Rankin) all know how it goes, and they’ve filled in Jamie (Sam Heughan).
Jamie especially is in a tough place. It’s almost as if the burden of keeping history intact has been passed along to him, and we’re starting to see the cracks show.
We only have three episodes left in the sixth season of Outlander, which means there won’t be much time to get into the trenches of the Revolutionary War. It’s safe to assume that season 7 will take on the bulk of it.
What will Outlander season 7 be about?
As of now, we don’t have any solid details about season 7. However, if past seasons are any indication, it will adapt the seventh book in Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series, An Echo in the Bone.
This book focuses on the Revolutionary War but has a lot of twists and turns along the way. There may even be some time travel again. And we could see a blast from Jamie’s past in the form of his son, William. This also means that we’ll get to see more of Lord John Grey (David Berry).
Speaking of which, Berry spoke to Hello! recently and confirmed that he will indeed return for Outlander season 7. “Yes, Lord John will be in future episodes,” the actor said.
"I can tell you that wherever John goes, William is close in his heart – as well as close in the heart of Jamie. I’m sure that whether he’s there in person or not he is someone who will probably be discussed and will appear in the storyline going forward."
Okay, I’m officially stoked for Outlander season 7!
