Jodie Whittaker will play the Doctor again (in an audio adventure)
By Dan Selcke
Jodie Whittaker has only a couple more episodes of Doctor Who left before she regenerates, but that doesn’t mean her Doctor can’t show up elsewhere.
Doctor Who is on the edge of another changing of the guard. Jodie Whittaker has two episodes left as the Thirteenth Doctor, the next of which, “Legend of the Sea Devils,” will air on April 17.
But it ends up she’ll do more than that, albeit not on TV. Radio Times brings us the news that Whittaker will join a few other Doctor Who veterans in Doctor Who: Redacted, a new audio adventure created by Juno Dawson. “Doctor Who was my first love, and it’s an absolute thrill to add to the ever-expanding mythology in podcast form for the first time ever,” Dawson said. “What a total privilege to write for something so beloved, and put my own little flag on the landscape.”
Redacted will revolve around a trio of friends — Cleo, Abby and Shawna — connected by a paranormal podcast called The Blue Box Files. It tracks the path of a mysterious object — three guesses what it is — throughout history. “What if this random police public call box was actually an alien ship?” reads the official synopsis. “They don’t know who the Doctor is, or if aliens are real, but soon find themselves caught in a supernatural conspiracy as they learn that everyone who’s ever met the Doctor is disappearing and being forgotten.”
"Essentially, they’re being redacted from reality. The Blue Box Files is so unsuccessful that our heroes are the last ones to be affected by the redaction, making Cleo, Abby and Shawna the world’s only hope. Now it’s a race against time to uncover the truth."
Jemma Redgrave, Ingrid Oliver and Anjli Mohindra star as the three friends. Meanwhile, Whittaker will be joined by Doctor Who alum like Jemma Redgrave (Kate Stewart), Ingrid Oliver (Osgood) and Anjli Mohindra (Rani Chandra).
Doctor Who: Redacted comes out on April 17, the same day as “Legend of the Sea Devils.” As for Jodie Whittaker’s final episode before she regenerates as the Fourteenth Doctor, we still don’t know when that one is coming.
