Star Trek reveals Spock’s first name (and then takes it back)

Spock made his first appearance in the original, unaired pilot for Star Trek, way back in the mid-1960s. Since then, the extremely logical Vulcan alien became a sci-fi icon, played by Leonard Nimoy, and then Zachary Quinto in the newer big screen Star Trek adventures, and most recently Ethan Peck, who debuted as a younger Spock on the second season of Star Trek: Discovery.
That Spock will return in a brand new Trek series called Strange New Worlds. Years before Spock worked under Captain Kirk, the Enterprise was commanded by Captain Pike (Anson Mount), although its mission was still the same: to boldly go where no man has gone before, etc and so forth. The new show won’t be serialized like Discovery or Picard, but rather have episodes that stand more on their own like in Star Trek shows of old.
But even though this a prequel, it will still teach us new things about the characters. For instance, at the Star Trek: Mission Chicago event, fans got a load of a new Spock character poster that revealed something that had never been made official all these years: Spock’s first name.
Spock’s full name is S’Chn T’Gai Spock…maybe
According to this poster, Spock’s full name is S’Chn T’Gai Spock. Per Cinema Blend, this name was lifted from a 1985 Star Trek novel called Ishmael, written by Barbara Hambly.
It’s very cool for Star Trek to drop this piece of information, but don’t get too excited; apparently, officials from Star Trek: Mission Chicago have clarified that while Spock does have a first name, the name of the poster is not correct. The posters were put up by mistake…or just the name on them was wrong, it’s not 100% clear.
The point is that the people in charge are denying that this is Spock’s real name…but I dunno, the poster looks pretty official to me, although I’m willing to believe that this info slipped out before the producers meant it to. We’ll see if we learn anything new when Star Trek: Strange New Worlds premieres on Paramount+ on May 5.
