The other week, we heard that WarnerMedia was looking to revamp the DC Cinematic Universe, such as it is. We still don’t know what form that reboot will take, but the studio already has a lot of DC projects in the works, and they’re all moving forward.

For instance, TheWrap reports that Susan Sarandon (Thelma & LouiseBull Durham, a whole lot of other stuff) will play the villain in the upcoming Blue Beetle movie, about a teenager who gets superpowers from a Blue Beetle Scarab, a piece of alien technology.

Sarandon will play Victoria Kord; not long ago, Sharon Stone was in talks to play that part, but things change. There’s no one by the name of Victoria Kord in the comics. However, the guy who had the Blue Beetle powers before hero Jaime Reyes was named Ted Kord. Ted had a jackass uncle who wanted to take over the world. Perhaps Victoria is a genderbent version of that character?

Riverdale and 1883 stars join Wonder Twins movie

And that’s not the only DC project rolling along! Deadline reports that Warner Bros. has cast a couple of actors as the Wonder Twins in an upcoming HBO Max movie about the transforming sibling duo.

The Wonder Twins are Zan and Jayna; with their powers combined, Jayna can turn into any animal she chooses, which is pretty cool; and Zan can turn into various forms of water, which is less so. The characters have long been considered something of a joke, so it’s fitting that their movie is going to be a comedy.

To play this pair, Warner Bros. has tapped Riverdale star KJ Apa, Archie himself, and 1883 star Isabel May.

Batgirl star teases the “badassery” of new DC movie

Finally, actor Leslie Grace talked to Variety about the upcoming Batgirl movie on HBO Max. “There’s some crazy stuff that happens,” she said. “There’s lots of fire because as everyone knows by now, [Brendan Fraser] plays Firefly. There’s crazy fire. There’s crazy stunts, crazy drops. She’s a biker chick, so you’re going to see her do a bunch of badassery.”

"It was an incredible learning experience to be on set with also action veterans like Brendan Fraser, and soak up it all up. It was so hard because he’s our villain and I’m not supposed to like him but he’s such a huge teddy bear. He is one of the nicest people that I’ve ever met. In our fight sequences the way he would just hit marks, it came from all of his experience. You can’t improvise that kind of experience."

So as you can see, whoever is going to reboot the DC Cinematic Universe has their work cut out for them.

The Batgirl movie is due out on HBO Max sometime this year. Blue Beetle will follow in August of 2023, and who knows when the Wonder Twins movie will come?
