Ms. Marvel is up next on Disney+’s slate of Marvel shows, and as a Pakistani American woman, I cannot express the excitement I have for it. Ms. Marvel, aka Kamala Khan, will be the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first Muslim superhero, and it is truly going to be a groundbreaking moment for the franchise.

This will be the first time that I will see an MCU character that looks, talks, and comes from the same cultural and religious background as me. This has been a long time coming, and I cannot wait to see this story come to life. My hype level has gone up exponentially after watching Marvel’s current Disney+ series, Moon Knight, which has illustrated and conveyed Egyptian culture so authentically. Every minute detail has been tended to so I hope and expect Ms. Marvel to have gotten the same treatment.

It makes me happy that co-creator Sana Amanat has nothing but pure and sheer enthusiasm for the upcoming series, which she shared during an interview with EmpireShe called Ms. Marvel a “historic moment” and is excited to see it come to fruition after working on it for two long and hard years.

What will Ms. Marvel be about?

Kamala Khan is a young Pakistani-American teenage girl from Jersey City who loves to game, write fan fiction, and is absolutely obsessed with Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel. She looks up to Captain Marvel in every which way and daydreams often about fighting alongside her and the Avengers.

Soon enough, these fantasies start to weave their way into reality when she starts to mysteriously gain abilities. Ms. Marvel will spend a lot of its time following Kamala as she tries to balance her regular life with that of an emerging superhero. The series will be her journey in figuring this superhero thing out while grappling with the responsibilities of her regular life. Honestly, I think this show is going to be great.

I think what I’m most looking forward to is seeing how Kamala does or does not involve her family throughout the journey. Coming from the same background as her, I can’t imagine how my parents would react to something like this, and I can already concoct the types of conversations that I would have with them. Based on that idea alone, I hope Ms. Marvel does that element of the culture justice and sheds light on the struggles Kamala could potentially face with her South Asian parents.

Amanat gave a very interesting description of what this series will feel like, and I must say, I’m more intrigued than I already was.

“I grew up reading Nancy Drew mysteries and watching Saved by The Bell and Degrassi,” Amanat said. “I loved coming-of-age stories. It’s all about having crushes and self-discovery.”

So, we’re looking at this series pulling inspiration from Nancy Drew, Saved by the Bell, and Degrassi?! I know I’ve already said it a million times, but this show is going to be EPIC! June 8 cannot come soon enough, folks.

Next. Moon Knight Episode 3 is an immersive Egyptian treasure hunt. dark
