A brief recap of the ongoing Johnny Depp-Amber Heard drama: Heard divorced Depp in 2016. She also obtained a temporary restraining order against him. In 2018, she wrote an op-ed for The Washington Post where she recounted her experience with violence and domestic abuse. She did not mention Depp’s name.

Depp sued the British tabloid The Sun for calling him a “wife-beater.” He lost that case, with the judge finding that there was “overwhelming evidence” that Depp assaulted Heard many times during their marriage. He also lost the appeal.

That brings us up to now, when Depp is suing Heard for defamation. He’s seeking $50 million in damages. The trial is set to last five weeks and is currently taking place in Virginia’s Fairfax County Courthouse. Court TV is streaming it live. You can watch it below:

Depp is taking the stand today. Heard will also be taking the stand. The trial will run Mondays through Thursdays with Fridays off. There will also be a break on May 9-12 as Judge Penney S. Azcarate attends to a previously scheduled conference engagement.

This is going to be a long, ugly affair. It’s also a very popular one, with over 100,000 people watching the live stream at the time of this writing.
