AMC is adapting Anne Rice’s classic novel Interview With the Vampire for the small screen, with Game of Thrones veteran Jacob Anderson as Louis and Australian actor Sam Reid as Lestat. The story revolves around Lestat turning Louis into a vampire when Louis is at a low ebb in his life, and then spending years together in violent melancholia. Sounds fun.

The other day, AMC gave us a glimpse of Reid as Lestat, albeit from behind so we can’t see his face. Watch the new teaser below:

Why is AMC changing the timeline of Interview With The Vampire?

Long-time fans of the book may notice that the show seems to be set in a different time period. In the novel, Lestat turns Louis into a vampire in 1791, and their decades-long relationship spans the 19th century. But everything we’ve seen of the AMC show so far suggests an early 20th century setting, what with the electric lights and all.

Producer Mark Johnson has talked about updating the story. “What Anne Rice created and what her fans have been transfixed by forces us to take this book-to-television show transition with a great deal of responsibility,” he said. “It is imperative that we do not disappoint her fans and yet we need to make sure that this story, these characters sing for a modern audience.”

Fair enough, although are modern audiences really going to respond that much more strongly to an early 19th century setting than they would to an 18th-19th century one? It’s a period piece either way.

We don’t have a release date for Interview With The Vampire yet, but given how much more they’ve been sharing, we could get one soon.
