George R.R. Martin is the author of the Song of Ice and Fire series, adapted as Game of Thrones by HBO. He is also a prolific television producer with his fingers in a lot of pies, including the upcoming AMC show Dark Winds, an adaptation of the Navajo detective novels by Tony Hillerman.

The show, which stars Westworld veteran Zahn McClarnon and Kiowa Gordon as Navajo tribal police officers Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee, looks pretty good, as you can see in the trailer below. There’s some impressive talent behind the scenes, too; Martin shares executive producing duties with none other than iconic actor and director Robert Redford. Pretty good company!

I’m not at all surprised that Martin would write about the new trailer on his blog. What does throw me a tad is that he titled said blog post “The Winds of June,” June 12 being the release date for Dark Winds on AMC and AMC+.

You’re killin’ me, George

Now, if you’re a fan of George R.R. Martin, you know that he’s been working on the next book in the Song of Ice and Fire series, The Winds of Winter, for over a damn decade now. It’s getting pretty absurd, to the point where whenever he posts about anything that isn’t related to The Winds of Winter, there’s a contingent of fans who shout at him online to get back to writing.

I don’t truck with any of that — the guy can do what he wants — but I do think it’s pretty hilarious that he seems to be baiting those types by referencing The Winds of Winter in the title of a blog post that is about something completely unrelated.

Is this master trolling? Is it just an innocent gag? I don’t know, but life can be dreary sometimes, so I invite the chaos. Like, I would be irritated but it’s just too funny to bother.

Once again, Dark Winds premieres on AMC and AMC+ on June 12. In addition to McClarnon and Gordon, the show also stars Jessica Matten, Deanna Allison and Rainn Wilson, aka Dwight from The Office. As for when The Winds of Winter might come out, who the hell knows?

Next. Have any of these 15 shows become “the next Game of Thrones”?. dark
