Ayoola Smart will play Aviendha on The Wheel of Time season 2

Killing Eve star Ayoola Smart will play the key character of Aviendha in the second season of The Wheel of Time on Amazon Prime Video.

Amazon has bitten off a whole lot with The Wheel of Time, a TV adaptation of Robert Jordan’s 14-book strong epic fantasy series. The first season found an audience, but can Amazon Studios keep this up long enough to tell the whole of this long, complicated story?

So far, so good. Speaking at JordanCon 2022, The Wheel of Time showrunner Rafe Judkins revealed who will be playing the role of Aviendha, an important character first introduced in the third book in the series, The Dragon Reborn. The honor goes to Ayoola Smart, who played the character of Audrey in the third season of Killing Eve.

This all comes from Deadline, which describes Aviendha as “a Wise One of the Nine Valleys sept of the Taardad Aiel.” When we meet Aviendha in the books, she is not yet a Wise One; she is a warrior of the Aiel, which means that she and Rand al’Thor (Josha Stradowski) belong to the same race of people, although Rand was adopted by Tam al’Thor as a baby and raised in the Two Rivers. But I wouldn’t read that much into the description; it looks like Deadline lifted it from The Wheel of Time wiki.

There’s no word on when we might see the second season of The Wheel of Time, but filming started quite a while ago, so there’s a chance it could premiere this year.
