The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger, about a marriage strained by the husband’s bad habit of becoming unstuck in time, came out in 2003 and instantly became a popular beach read. How do you maintain a relationship when one partner just zaps out of time at random moments? The yearning, people…the yearning. It’ll get ya.

The book was adapted as a movie starring Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams in 2009, and most people thought it was pretty lame. Now, over a decade later, HBO is taking a swing by turning the book into a six-episode series, with Game of Thrones alum Rose Leslie (Ygritte) as Claire, the wife, and Theo James as Henry, the husband.

And they’ve just released a trailer. Watch below!

Once again, the yearning

Former Doctor Who showrunner bringing The Time Traveler’s Wife to HBO

Obviously, if you’re going to make a show about a time-traveling romance, you turn to the experts. Former Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat is behind this new version of The Time Traveler’s Wife, having enjoyed the book for years. “I read Audrey Niffenegger’s The Time Traveler’s Wife many years ago, and I fell in love with it,” Moffat said in a statement, per The A.V. Club. “It’s a story of happy ever after—but not necessarily in that order.”

Apparently, Moffat even wrote the Doctor Who episode “The Girl In The Fireplace” in response to this book. It seems like a good match.

The Time Traveler’s Wife premieres on HBO and HBO Max on May 15.
