The Flash season 8 is running towards the end as Barry (Grant Gustin) and the rest of Team Flash prepare for what’s ahead. The theme of the latest trailer is the unknown, which is quite fitting for a show that could be getting ready to end for good after this season.

As someone who has been watching the show since it started, I think it’s time to say farewell. The show ran into a roadblock a couple of seasons ago and it just hasn’t been the same since. The CW probably should have ended it the year after Arrow.

But with WarnerMedia looking to revamp the DC films (again), it’s possible that the Arrowverse shows are on their way out. In fact, Batwoman and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow have yet to be renewed, although The Flash is at least coming back for a ninth season. If I had to guess, I’d say those two shows won’t be renewed, and we’ll find out in the next six months or so whether The Flash is ending after season 9.

But while the show is here, let’s talk about what’s in store for the back half of The Flash season 8.

The Flash season 8 trailer runs toward the unknown

The most recent episode of The Flash revealed that Robbie Amell’s character Ronnie Raymond is returning, but not in the way we were hoping. It looks Ronnie/Firestorm has gone full evil and transformed into Deathstorm.

Meanwhile, Barry is losing confidence with the direction he’s taken. It doesn’t help that something weird has been going on with Iris (Candice Patton). Peep her glowing green eyes in the trailer; is she also going full evil?!

A lot of questions remain unanswered. According to showrunner Eric Wallace, there was a “three-year master plan” for seasons 6,7 and 8 but not everything will be resolved by the time season 8 ends.

Perhaps there are some epic plans for what could be the final season of The Flash? I guess we’ll have to wait and see! The Flash returns for new episodes this Wednesday, April 27.
