Next month, Marvel Studios’ latest blockbuster, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, arrives in theaters. But that’s not the only Doctor Strange movie dropping this year, as it’s been announced that the 1978 live-action Doctor Strange film is getting a Blu-ray rerelease that nobody knew they needed.
The origin story for Stephen Strange in this movie differs a lot from what we saw in the 2016 film with Benedict Cumberbatch. Instead of fighting Kaecilius, he’s tasked with defeating evil sorceress Morgan le Fey (Jessica Walter). Watch the trailer:
And if that wasn’t enough, here’s the synopsis:
"A modern hospital may seem worlds apart from the days of ancient sorcerers. But for psychiatrist Stephen Strange (Peter Hooten) and his patient Clea Lake (Eddie Benton), this is where those worlds collide … and the nightmare begins! Nothing Stephen Strange learned in medical school could prepare him for an attack by an evil sorceress from the “fourth dimension,” Morgan le Fay (Jessica Walter), a villainess who plans an invasion of unimaginable evil on Earth. Chosen by an ancient guardian of the spirit world to learn the mystic arts to defeat Morgan and safeguard the Earth, Stephen Strange must take the place of the Earth’s last sorcerer. Come along for a fantastic adventure into the “fourth dimension” with … Dr. Strange!"
Besides the high-definition restoration of the movie, the Blu-ray also comes with an audio commentary from Pop Culture Historian Russell Dyball and “The Panel Jumper” host Cole Hornaday. It features some glorious new cover art, too:
Might this remaster be an indication that we’ll see Peter Hooten’s version of Stephen Strange in Multiverse of Madness? Probably not, but it’s a good way to pick up some money while the character is trending.
