Outlander star Paul Gorman explains that Beardsley twins plot twist
By Ariba Bhuvad
If you haven’t seen the latest episode of Outlander, then drop whatever you’re doing (including reading this article) and go check it out! There were plot twists galore, and I wouldn’t want to ruin anything for you.
Okay, now that that’s done, prepare to enter SPOILER territory.
In the latest episode of Outlander, “Sticks and Stones,” everyone’s trying to figure out who murdered Malva Christie (Jessica Reynolds). Claire (Caitriona Balfe) seems the most likely suspect, even if she has no memory of it; she even doubts herself for a moment.
I think it’s safe to say Claire isn’t the one who murdered Malva; I just refuse to believe Claire could ever intentionally harm another human being, even if she is completely out of it and hates that person. Not to mention, if you’ve read the books then you know where this storyline is going.
Anyway, there is some suspicion directed at the Beardsley twins. They were nowhere to be found, and Ian (John Bell) couldn’t help but feel that they were hiding something.
Well, as it turned out, they were hiding something, but it had nothing to do with Malva’s murder. Paul Gorman, who plays both Keziah and Josiah Beardsley, spoke to Hello! about the plot twist and shared his thoughts on all the madness unfolding in Fraser’s Ridge.
Outlander has not one, but two, handfast ceremonies
For those of you who have not read the books (like me), you may not know what is coming up. I’m in the process of reading the Outlander books currently, but I like that I’m behind because everything has come as a surprise.
And i was definitely surprised this week when Lizzie (Caitlin O’ Ryan) revealed that she was pregnant, although it’s unclear if the father was Josiah or Keziah, since she’s been sleeping with both. The three of them bonded while Lizzie had the flu and one thing led to another. She loves both of them and views them as one soul split into two bodies.
Lizzie manages to get handfast to both of them, despite Jamie’s (Sam Heughan) strict orders that she only marry one of them and that the other leaves until the baby is born. Lizzie reluctantly agreed, but fooled everyone when she had Jamie do one ceremony and Roger (Richard Rankin) the other.
“A lot of the people are fans of the books so they know that it’s coming… so I knew it was on the horizon, so to speak,” Gorman said. “I’m really pleased by how it ended up. It’s really lovingly shown, the two marriages that they have, and how it played out. It’s love! That’s what we were thinking about… when Jamie confronts them they feel guilt and remorse, like they’ve betrayed their trust, but for them it’s love… They don’t see it as if they’ve committed a sinful or wrong act, they love each other and they want to be with each other so much.”
I know it’s a weird situation, but I was compelled by their strange love story. Something about it just pulled at my heartstrings, and I can’t help but root for them to work it out.
Sadly, as much as we want to celebrate this happy occasion (as weird as it is), there are darker things taking place at Fraser’s Ridge. I have no idea what to expect heading into the season 6 finale this Sunday, and honestly, I’m quite nervous. Claire is in a bad place, she might be getting punished for something we all know she didn’t do, and oh yeah, there is still the dang war to worry about!
Deep breaths, Outlander fans, deep breaths.
