For years, Lucasfilm licensed the right to make Star Wars video games out to Electronic Arts, and by and large, it was bad. Considering how popular the franchise is, Star Wars fans got shockingly few games out of the studio, and when they did get something, it was liable to cause a firestorm of backlash like 2017’s Star Wars Battlefront II. Such anger, such suffering…there’s no forgetting it.

But last year, Lucasfilm ended its licensing agreement with EA and starting spreading the wealth around. Aspyr Media is remaking Knights of the Old Republic for PlayStation, and now, there’s a rumor going around that ZeniMax Online Studios — the people behind The Elder Scrolls Online — is making a new MMO game based on The Mandalorian.

This rumor comes from Skullzi and Nick Baker, the latter being a prominent leaker and insider for all things Xbox-related. Per ComicBook.com, Baker first broke the news about a Mandalorian game last year. Skullzi added that it’s an MMO, and Baker signed off on much of that they said.

A Mandalorian MMO game may be coming

Does this definitely mean that players will definitely get to put on a Mandalorian helmet and traverse the galaxy collecting bounties? No, but it’s interesting to think about, and it would make sense for Lucasfilm to highlight one of the new jewels in its crown; The Mandalorian was a hit on Disney+ since pretty much the day it premiered, and has done a lot to revive the Star Wars brand after a few up-and-down years. It’s also launched a budding Star Wars Television Universe, and if there’s any company that knows how to double down on a thing that’s working, it’s Lucasfilm owner Disney.

As for what form an MMO Mandalorian game might take, we’ll have to wait for more details. If the Star Wars gods are good, you’ll be able to play as a Baby Yoda of your own design.
