Who is Victor Creel in Stranger Things season 4?

Stranger Things season 4 is right around the corner, and from the looks of things, it’s going to be the scariest season of the show yet. The kids we’ve followed are growing up, and Stranger Things is set to grow up with them by introducing some brand new flavors of horror. Since the trailer for the new season hit a few weeks back, we’ve gotten more details about the mysterious Creel House and Vecna, the humanoid monster that resides in its attic.
The Creel House is set to play a pretty prominent part in Stranger Things season 4, allowing the show to do its own take on a haunted house for the first time in its run. And at the center of all the mysteries is Victor Creel, played by horror icon Robert Englund, the man who terrified a generation of moviegoers as Freddy Kreuger in Nightmare on Elm Street.
As it turns out, Englund isn’t playing any sort of monster in Stranger Things, at least so far as we know, although we get the idea there are a few important details we have yet to learn. According to showrunner Ross Duffer, “What occurs in [Creel House] is pivotal to understanding what has been happening in Hawkins all of these years.”
Victor Creel Stranger Things
With the premiere of Stranger Things season 4 just around a month away, many details about the show are being kept under tight wraps, Victor Creel’s background included. That said, we’ve heard a decent amount already.
Victor’s story on Stranger Things will apparently begin decades before the struggles that have already been depicted in the show. Victor and his family moved to the Creel House back in the 1950s, and for a while seemed like a perfectly normal family in a perfectly normal home. But then strange things started happening, like lights flickering and animals dropping dead around the property. Then things got even stranger…but that’s where the details start to get fuzzy. All we know is that these seemingly paranormal occurrences in the Creel House led to the brutal murder of Victor’s entire family. (Or so it seems; the identity of Vecna is still very much a mystery, and we’re not ruling out that he’s related to Victor in some way.)
After the murder, Victor was taken to a psychiatric hospital where he has resided for years. Will he stay there for the entirety of the season?
We’re not sure, but we do know that Nancy Wheeler (Natalia Dyer) will have scenes with Victor. The actor spoke about the experience of shooting with Robert Englund during a roundtable discussion. Per Entertainment Weekly, Nancy will be one of those trying to unravel the mystery behind Victor Creel’s dark past. “[Robert Englund] brought a real enthusiasm to his role, and honestly, it was just an honor to watch him work,” Dyer said. “The role that he plays is just really interesting. I can’t say that much about it, but he was so lovely and kind and sweet and really gave such a great performance. I’m really excited to see it on the screen.”
We’ll find out what Nancy and the rest of the gang discover about Victor Creel and his spooky haunted house when the first half of Stranger Things season 4 premieres on May 27 on Netflix. The second half of the season will follow on July 1.
