A couple weeks back, DC Films announced that it had cast two actors to play the Wonder Twins in a new HBO Max movie: 1883 star Isabel May was going to play Jayna, and Riverdale’s KJ Apa, Archie himself, was going to play Zan.

The Wonder Twins are an old DC first introduced on the cartoon The Super Friends. They’ve always been considered something of a joke. When they combine their powers, Jayna can turn into any animal she chooses and Zan can turn into various forms of water; not terribly versatile crime-fighters, these too. The new movie was going to be a comedy, so perhaps DC was leaning into this narrative.

But no more, at least if you believe the exclusive report from That Hashtag Show which claims the movie has been shut down before production could begin. You’ll have to get your Wonder Twins fix in jerkily animated 1970s form:

Warner Bros. Discovery is rethinking all things DC

Why the (supposed) cancellation? We’re not sure, but I’m willing to bet it has something to do with WarnerMedia — the studio behind DC Films — merging with Discovery. The new CEO of the combined conglomerate, David Zaslav, reportedly wants a revamp of the DC brand, which has a spotty history when it comes to the big screen. Maybe he didn’t think the Wonder Twins movie fit in with these plans.

This news also comes days after The CW cancelled two DC TV showsBatwoman and Legends of Tomorrow. They have some rebuilding to do over there at Warner Bros. Discovery.
