Following the disappointing news that Melissa McBride (Carol) has dropped out of the untitled Walking Dead spinoff series that she was set to star in alongside Norman Reedus (Daryl), we’ve got a more positive update from within the franchise. Gaius Charles (Friday Night Lights, Grey’s Anatomy) has joined the cast of Isle of the Dead alongside Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Negan) and Lauren Cohan (Maggie)!

Isle of the Dead sees unlikely duo Maggie and Negan set off to New York City, although exactly why they’re going is currently unknown. The duo have been at each other’s throats ever since Negan shockingly killed Maggie’s husband Glenn (Steven Yeun) in the season 7 premiere. Granted, in recent episodes, we’ve seen glimpses of civility after they’ve been forced to work together to fight common enemies, including the Commonwealth and the Reapers.

When they reach New York City, they’ll find that, while demolished, it isn’t abandoned. We now know one person they meet. Per Deadline, Gaius Charles has joined the cast as Perlie Armstrong, who is described as “confident, ruthless, and unyielding in the pursuit of what he believes is justice, with the force of his will and his menace. Perlie enjoys his work and intersperses humor with the terror he incites.” Above all, he’s a family man devoted to providing safety for his wife and daughters.

Isle of the Dead is a six-episode miniseries. It begins shooting this summer in New York. It’ll be the fourth Walking Dead spinoff to air, following Fear the Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: World Beyond, and Tales of The Walking Dead. It won’t be the last, though. We’ve got that Daryl show, as well as those mysterious Rick Grimes movies. The zombies keep coming.

AMC Jeffrey Dean Morgan calls out some “toxic” fans

After learning that Carol will no longer be a part of the Daryl-Carol show, some fans have come up with some strange theories about what happened. After coming across some “toxic” things people were saying on Twitter, actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan took to his platform to clear things up. And after that, AMC itself stepped in to try and cool things down:

Don’t be like that, people! Melissa McBride has been a key figure in the Walking Dead franchise for over a decade at this point, playing Carol from season 1 all the way to the end. That’s an incredible achievement. Let’s respect her decision to take a break.

The Walking Dead season 11 returns later this year, along with new spinoff Tales of The Walking Dead. Neither the untitled Daryl show nor Isle of the Dead have premiere dates yet. Watch this space.
