Quantum Leap, which aired on NBC from 1989-93, was a science fiction show about Dr. Sam Beckett (Scott Bakula), a physicist who became unstuck in time and traveled willy-nilly to various points in history where he would inevitably find someone who needed help, help, and then move onto the next thing. The late Dean Stockwell played Admiral Al Calavicci, his friend who appeared to him in holographic form and fed him information about whatever time period he wound up in.

It was a different time.

Anyway, NBC started working on a reboot of the series a while ago. Now, Deadline reports that they’ve officially ordered it to series based on the stretch of the pilot.

The new Quantum Leap has a bigger cast than the old one

That’s Raymond Lee as the main character. Presumably, he’s the new guy who will fall through time and kill Hitler or whatever (full disclosure: I never actually watched the original show, so forgive me if that example is wildly off).

The cast also includes Caitlin Bassett, Ernie Hudson, Mason Alexander Park and Nanrisa Lee, which means this show has quite a lot more principle players than the original did. Perhaps a format change is coming?

It’s also unknown if Bakula will turn up. Over 30 years later, he has a whole new NBC show, Unbroken, waiting for a pickup order.

There’s no release date for the Quantum Leap reboot as of yet.
