Chris Hemsworth will forever be known as Thor; at this point, it’s unavoidable. But that doesn’t mean he wants to spend all of his time training in the gym so he can play a good-hearted, thick-headed superhero who battles creatures from Norse mythology. He has other sides too.

For example, in the upcoming Netflix movie Spiderhead, Hemsworth plays Steve Abnesti, a guy who runs an upscale prison where inmates are granted commuted sentences if they volunteer to take part in certain…experiments. Abnesti and his team attach little devices to their backs that allow Abnesti to pump them full of whatever drug he wants. The effects range from interesting to uh-oh-we’re-crossing-a-line-man-was-not-meant-to-cross terrifying.

Check out the trailer below:

Spiderhead will feature Chris Hemsworth as you’ve never seen him before

That’s Miles Teller and Jurnee Smollett as two prisoners who decide to try and push back against Abnesti. The movie is based on the short story “Escape From Spiderhead” by George Saunders. It’s directed by Top Gun: Maverick’s Joseph Kosinski and written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the guys behind the Deadpool movies.

Spiderhead drops on Netflix on June 17. And hey, look at that: Thor: Love and Thunder is out in theaters on July 8. Guy has a busy summer.
