We’ve been hearing reports on and off for the past couple weeks that The Wheel of Time was nearing the end of filming on season 2, but now it’s official. A post went up on the show’s Twitter account the other day that confirmed production on season 2 has concluded. It also gave us a look behind the scenes with a teaser, including table reads, crew members hard at work, and what looks like a new location being added for season 2. Check it out below:

The Wheel of Time season 2 teaser hints at the Aiel Waste

At just over 30 seconds, there’s not too much to be gleaned from this teaser, but it’s still a fun way to mark the end of shooting. It’s good to see series stars Rosamund Pike (Moiraine), Josha Stradowski (Rand al’Thor), Zoë Robbins (Nynaeve al’Maera) and the rest again. There’s also a brief shot of Stradowski getting thrown like a rag doll by a stunt coordinator, which is awesome. From the way he’s being tossed, you have to wonder if they’re prepping for a scene with trollocs or some other terrifying foe. Who else could slam Rand down like that?

It could be a member of the Aiel, the fierce warrior people who inhabit the desert known as the Aeil Waste or the Three-fold Land. It’s already been confirmed that the Aiel Maiden of the Spear Aviendha will be played by Ayoola Smart. Just how much of the Aiel will we see in season 2?

Well, the teaser does feature a desert landscape that could be the Aiel Waste. This is notable because we don’t actually visit the Waste in Robert Jordan’s novels until book 4, The Shadow Rising, although we do meet Aiel who have ventured beyond the mountain border of their territory before that. Maybe our characters will visit the Waste ahead of time, or maybe we’ll see some band of Aiel warriors set out.

Also of note, there’s no sign of Dónal Finn, who stepped in to replace Barney Harris as Mat Cauthon this season. No doubt the team behind The Wheel of Time are biding their time for the perfect moment to introduce us to the new Mat.

There’s no solid information on when The Wheel of Time season 2 will be released, aside from that it will premiere sometime after Amazon’s other big fantasy show The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power hits this fall.
