There are an awful lot of great shows coming out this summer. One of them is The Umbrella Academy, which is returning for its third season on Netflix this June. Based on the comics by Gerard Way and Gabrial Bá, it’s the story of an adopted family of misfit superheroes who save the world and mess it up by turns.

Last season saw our heroes travel back in time to Dallas on the eve of the Kennedy assassination, where they averted yet another disaster that would have destroyed the world. At season’s end they tried to travel back to their own time…only to arrive in what appeared to be an alternate future where different superpowered children had been adopted by their father to form The Sparrow Academy.

It’s always a fun time on The Umbrella Academy, and based on the brand new trailer Netflix just dropped, season 3 looks to up the hilarity and hijinks even further:

Meet the Sparrow Academy

The Umbrella Academy is a chaotic self-aware superhero show more like The Boys than the family-friendly Marvel fare on Disney+. From commenting about how much of a d***head their brother Ben is in this reality (where he’s still alive) to pounding drinks and ribbing each other as they try to figure out how to avert another world-ending disaster, this trailer perfectly sets the stage for season 3. Number Five (Aidan Gallagher), Vanya (Elliot Page), Luther (Tom Hopper), Klaus (Robert Sheehan), Allison (Emmy Raver-Lampman), and Diego (David Castañeda) are fish out of water, trying to figure out a plan in this reality where they’re clearly not welcome. Given how much the family issues have always been a central part of the show, we can only imagine how much more fun they’ll be now that a whole other family of heroes exists to compete for their foster father’s attention.

As it turns out, the newest world-ending disaster is the Umbrella Academy’s fault. “When we jumped here, we created a time paradox. Our little paradox brought forth a kugelblitz,” Number Five says in the trailer. When asked what that means, he sums it up neatly. “Essentially, we’re screwed.”

It appears that this kugelblitz is unraveling reality. Apparently, the universe has just around four or five days left, so the stakes are right in that Umbrella Academy sweet spot. Will the Umbrellas and Sparrows reconcile their differences to stop the danger, or kill each other before they can save the day? We’ll find out when The Umbrella Academy season 3 hits Netflix on June 22.
