Gorr the God Butcher slays in new Thor: Love and Thunder trailer
By Daniel Roman
Is that Anakin Skywalker? Voldemort? Nay, little humans, it is Gorr the God Butcher, here to slay all of Marvel’s gods and bring memes to the internet!
With just over two months to go until Thor: Love and Thunder flies into theaters, Marvel has unleashed a brand new trailer that gives us a much better look at the movie. The first trailer may have given us a glimpse at Natalie Portman’s Mighty Thor, but this time around she’s on full display, hanging out with Thor and Valkyrie and Korg. We also get our first look at Christian Bale as the film’s villain Gorr the God Butcher:
Thor: Love and Thunder trailer shows off Gorr and the Mighty Thor
Hot on the heels of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Thor: Love and Thunder looks poised to be the studio’s big summer blockbuster. The trailer is fun, funny, and teases a few big action sequences, including duels between Gorr and Thor and between Gorr and Valkyrie. This trailer is our first real look at Bale as the villain, and he looks pretty awesome. “I think personally, he’s probably one of the best villains that Marvel’s had in their films. He’s very layered,” director Taika Waititi said earlier this month. From these few glimpses, it’s easy to believe him.
We also see Natalie Portman getting into it as the Jane Foster/Mighty Thor, kicking butt and zapping baddies like she’s been doing it all her life. The interplay between Portman and Hemsworth is fun, as Thor realizes that his first love has taken up his old mantle as the God of Thunder and now wields Mjolnir. He’s smitten.
Really, it’s no surprise that the fourth Thor film looks like it’s going to be such a blast. Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi is back and he’s bringing his trademark humor with him. From Thor getting his clothes “flicked” off by Zeus (Russell Crowe) to making eyes at Jane while a burning building collapses behind them to the goats Toothgnasher and Toothgrinder pulling their ship through space, the movie looks like a great time.
The Guardians of the Galaxy are conspicuously absent here, but since they appeared in the previous trailer, it feels like a good choice to focus more on Jane and Gorr this time around.
Thor: Love and Thunder is out in theaters on July 8.
