Alfie Allen was nominated for an Emmy for his work as Theon Greyjoy for the final episode of Game of Thrones. He lost out on that award, but his luck may be about to change. The actor has received a Tony nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Play for his role in Hangmen, a comedy about a British executioner adjusting to life after hanging is outlawed in 1965. “I’m slightly in shock a bit,” Allen told PEOPLE about the nomination.

Allen has spent plenty of time on the stage, but appearing in a Broadway play had him nervous…for a minute. “I was nervous during the rehearsals, but then as soon as we got into the theater — even before rehearsing in the theater, just being in the theater and in that space — I just relaxed into it a bit,” he said. “In the rehearsal rooms I was all over the place, but the cast was so supportive, and they really helped me.”

"I was onstage from when I was a child doing community theater, doing pantomime, when I was very, very young, so the idea of being onstage, that doesn’t really get on my nerves, do you know what I mean? But all the stuff before does. As soon as I get on [stage], I enjoy it."

Fans bring Alfie Allen their Theon Greyjoy Funkos to sign on Broadway

Hangman runs through June 18 at the John Golden Theatre in New York City, so if you want to see Allen in this darkly comedic role, you don’t have much time left. He’s happy to talk to fans afterwards, too, including people who remember him from Game of Thrones. “A lot of people brought their Funko Pop dolls for me to sign,” he said, referring to the collectible Theon Greyjoy figurines. “They’ve come afterwards, and we’ve just been chatting about [Hangmen].”

As for the Tonys, they take place June 12. We’ll be crossing our fingers for Allen to win!
