The Star Wars Celebration is in full swing, but it isn’t all about that galaxy far, far away. The other day, Harrison Ford made an unexpected appearance to talk about Indiana Jones 5, which is officially coming out next year.
Ford walked out on stage while John Williams — who turned 90 years old this year — directed his orchestra in playing the iconic Indiana Jones theme. “It’s a special honor for me to be able to congratulate John on his 90th birthday,” Ford said, per The Hollywood Reporter. “I told John on another occasion that we had the chance to be together, and that music follows me everywhere I go. And you know what, I’m happy about it.”
"That song was playing in the operating room when I had my last colonoscopy, I passed…The most gracious man. The gentlest man. A wonderful, wonderful talent that we’re blessed with."
Well, I guess there’s some similarity between Indiana Jones plumbing the depths of forgotten caves and doctors performing a colonoscopy.
Harrison Ford is “really proud” of Indiana Jones 5
Talking more generally about the next Indiana Jones movie, Ford said that he’s “really proud of the movie that we made.” For a guy known to be kind of grumpy, Ford was in a good mood.
Although original Indiana Jones director Steven Spielberg was originally going to direct the sequel, he had to back out. Logan director James Mangold has taken over. “We have almost completed the next Indiana Jones film, featuring the music of John Williams, and I had a wonderful experience working with James Mangold,” Ford said.
The film, which doesn’t have a subtitle yet, also stars Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, Thomas Kretschmann, Boyd Holbrook, Shaunette Renée Wilson and Antonio Banderas. Indiana Jones 5 is due out in theaters on June 30, 2023.
And if wanna hear something new from John Williams, he wrote the theme to the new show Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi, which premiered on Disney+ today!
