In the last decade of television, there was no show bigger than Game of Thrones. Even with its huge cast of characters, Rose Leslie’s portrayal of Ygritte stood out. A member of Mance Rayder’s wildling army, Ygritte falls in love with Jon Snow, who breaks his vows as a member of the Night’s Watch to be with her. Naturally, it all ends in tears.
Whenever anyone talks about Ygritte, one line immediately comes to mind: “You know nothing, Jon Snow.” That line is right up there with “Winter is Coming” and “Valar Morghulis” as one of the most famous quotes from the show. Unsurprisingly, fans ask Leslie to say the line to this day, although not as often as you might think.
“I feel very fortunate to be able to walk down the road and not get asked to say ‘You know nothing’, but because it happens so rarely, if I ever do get asked, I’ll be like, ‘Yes, of course!’” Leslie told The Guardian, adding that fans are always respectful to stop her when she’s doing her weekly shop. “Respectful of the fact you’re going into Sainsbury’s.”
Rose Leslie would work with Kit Harington again
Despite filming most of her scenes in the freezing cold of Iceland, Leslie has no regrets about her role in the show, saying it was the “time of her life.” Plus, she met the love of her life Kit Harrington (Jon Snow), with whom she now has a 13-month-old son.
Now that she spends almost every day with Kit Harrington looking after their child, it goes without saying that it’s not a working relationship anymore. That said, she’s not opposed to working with her husband again. “We know each other too well. But who knows? Never say never.”
Leslie also talked a bit about giving birth to their baby boy:
"I had only ever come across the narrative of ‘When your newborn is in your arms, or when he’s placed on your chest, your purpose is here and everything makes sense and this little light is everything that you’ve ever wished for.’ Going into labour, I was like, ‘Oh my God, I can’t wait for this magical moment!’ I am not taking anything away from that moment – obviously it’s magical – but it was many other emotions as well. And it took me a while to process what they were, and because of that, I think it’s quite important to speak about it."
Rose Leslie is currently starring in The Time Traveler’s Wife on Sky Atlantic and HBO. On August 21, we return to Westeros for the Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon. Here’s hoping it will live up to expectations!
