The fourth season of Stranger Things is out now on Netflix, and it’s pretty intense. And I don’t just say that because there’s a spooky new monster who’s killing kids; some of the most stressful scenes happen without any supernatural help.

Just ask Millie Bobby Brown, who plays Eleven. She talked to SyFy Wire about a scene in the second season where a bunch of Eleven’s hateful classmates humiliate her at a roller rink. “I remember about 50 people laughing at me and pointing at me,” Brown said. “I remember feeling super distressed and really sad.”

El goes to the roller rink with her boyfriend Mike (Finn Wolfhard) and her new adopted brother Will (Noah Schnapp). Schnapp got upset watching the scene play out, so if you see Will getting emotional in the background, that’s not fake. “Noah cried, which is insane,” Brown said before turning to Schnapp. “I don’t know if anyone knows that. But you actually got really upset. Do you remember that? You weren’t meant to cry in the scene — you just got naturally really emotional because it was actually quite distressing to watch.”

Well, we all know now.

Sadie Sink “couldn’t stop laughing” working with Vecna

Of course, working with that kid-killing monster — name of Vecna — was also intimidating. Sadie Sink (Max) in particular had a lot of screentime with him. “All those prosthetics were real,” she said. “What you see on camera is basically what was there in person on the day, except for the nose.

"I remember when I first saw him, I just, I couldn’t stop laughing because I was so spooked, and it just looks so real. And the actor who plays Vecna is so focused and just really giving me a lot to work with. I was really fortunate enough to have him as a scene partner."

As for who plays him…well, that would be a spoiler.

You can watch the first seven episodes of Stranger Things season 4 now! The remaining two are coming out on July 1.
