Charlize Theron has been pretty busy lately between her Marvel debut as Clea in Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness and now her very random cameo in Amazon Prime Video’s The Boys. For a show that already has very weird twists and turns, seeing Theron pop up almost felt expected and normal. If you’ve watched the season 3 premiere, you know this A-list cameo was definitely not the craziest thing to have happened.

The Boys season 3 premiered the first three episodes on June 3 and brought us right into the madness of the movie within the show known as Dawn of the Seven. It’s a fun little nod at Zack Snyder’s DC films and we are here for it. In the movie, the team of Supes is trying to take down Stormfront, who’s played by Theron.

It’s all very meta, fun, and weird, and we love it, don’t we? So how did it all come to be The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke spoke to SYFY Wire about the surprise cameo and what it took to get Theron on board to play an evil Nazi supervillain.

How did The Boys get Charlize Theron to cameo in season 3?

“Any cameo that shows up on the show adheres to a really rigorous and selective process of whoever returns Seth Rogen’s calls,” Kripke said. Rogen is an executive producer on the show and starred with Theron in 2019’s Long Shot.

“Charlize was a champion,” Kripke shared. “I’m sure she said ‘yes,’ doing a favor for a friend…I’m sure he pitched it as a really short cameo and then the next call is like, ‘So come into the wardrobe, we have to design your super-suit, and [you need to] show up on set. You have to work all day in the hot sun.’ I’m sure Seth owes her a lot right now.”

Theron was apparently a trooper through it all, despite the fact that she had to say things like “Fourth Reich.” We can’t imagine that was comfortable, but she never complained, according to Kripke.

“I don’t know if you’ve heard, but she’s a pretty good actor and the amount that she committed to the dumbest dialogue that has ever been written. She delivers it so well. She cares so much, she’s so sincere and she’s so f—ing funny,” revealed Kripke. “Obviously, she’s in comedies, but watching her work, you’re really struck by what a sharp comic actress she can be on top of everything else.”

And The Boys fun doesn’t stop there. The official Vought International Twitter account tweeted about Dawn of the Seven and made a hilarious reference to Snyder’s fan-led campaign, #ReleaseTheSnyderCut. Even though they were making fun of him, Snyder was all about the spoof and tweeted a congratulatory message to Dawn of the Seven director Adam Bourke (P.J. Byrne).

We’ve already seen some really weird stuff on The Boys season 3 and we’re sure that trend will continue. If you haven’t started it yet, head to Amazon Prime Video now and check out episodes 1-3. The remaining five episodes of the season will premiere weekly on Fridays.
