Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi is finally airing on Disney+, and it is a massive hit. The show had the biggest premiere of any series on Disney+ yet, and the third episode upped the ante by bringing Darth Vader back into the foreground.
Darth Vader is once again played by Hayden Christensen, who hasn’t donned the iconic black helmet since Revenge of the Sith in 2005. But given how much success the show has had, you have to wonder is Disney is thinking about extended it. It could give us a second season of Obi-Wan Kenobi, or even give Chrisenten his own Darth Vader show.
Nothing has been announced, but when ET Canada asked Christensen about the possibility of doing something like that, he sounds all for it. “Yeah, I mean, you know, absolutely,” the actor said. “I think this is a character that sort of resonates in our culture and in a very kind of profound way. And there’s certainly more there to explore. There are so many other stories that have been told in these other mediums…I would love to get to continue my journey with him.”
Would James Earl Jones return for a Darth Vader series
But there’s another question: even if Christensen would be down to play Darth Vader in his own series, would James Earl Jones? The actor has provided the voice of Darth Vader since the original 1977 movie, and there’s no mistaking it. It would feel very weird if we didn’t hear Jones’ voice coming out of that mask.
Jones is now 91 years old, so we have to wonder how many more years of acting he has ahead of him. Still, he came back for Obi-Wan Kenobi, so who knows what else he can do?
New episodes of Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi come out on Wednesdays. There are three more left.
